The Fenton varsity baseball team is battling for a Flint Metro League championship this week.
On Saturday, the Tigers won their first championship of the season, the Wood Bat Classic.
The Tigers defeated Lake Fenton 8-2 in the semifinals and then defeated Powers 3-1 in the title game to win the championship.
Linden lost his opening contest to Powers and Lake Fenton won the third place game 10-6 against the Eagles.
Against Lake Fenton, Brooks Funke earned the win on the hill. Nolan Alvord led offense with three goals in the opener against the Blue Devils while Connor Luck scored two.
In the title game, Fenton hit a run in the first inning and two in the second and never fell behind. Owen McCune pitched in the second game and only allowed two hits over six innings. He hit two and walked six. Zach Brown threw the seventh and secured.
The two-run second run started with a walk to see Peyton Jackson. He was thrown into second place and later Seth Logan fell out. Alvord took first place due to a penalty, scoring both runners.
Powers went over the bases loaded in the seventh, but a double play ground ball for Logan in the second helped slow that rally. A ground out on Logan ended the game one shot later.
Zach Barkholz led the offensive with two goals. Crow went twice.
