Flying to Fafe: Portuguese pilots prepare for the ERC fight

At the sixth round of the FIA European Rally Championship, the Rallye Serras de Fafe e Felguieras, several top Portuguese crews will be in action.

Bruno Magalhães, three-time winner in Fafe and the 2017 ERC runner-up, finished sixth behind Sordo this year, but got four times better in 2020 when he finished second behind Armindo Araújo (pictured), the six-time Portuguese champion.

Since his last ERC appearance in 2006, Araújo has won consecutive world titles in production cars and is currently leading his national championship after five laps. The brand new Hyundai i20 N Rally2 from Team Hyundai Portugal is now available to Magalhães.

In addition to Araújo and Magalhães, the Portuguese championship contingent includes Miguel Correia and the former national champions José Pedro Fontes and Ricardo Teodósio.

The highly regarded soccer coach and rally fan André Villas-Boas will also hoist the Portuguese flag in an i20 R5 from Team Hyundai Portugal on his first appearance at an ERC event. Villas-Boas will raise awareness of the Race for Good charity.

Pedro Almeida – who will be ridden by Fafe-based Hugo Magalhães – and Ernesto Cunha will chase after ERC3 success, while Paulo Neto will also be on duty, albeit not registered for ERC points.
