One of the world’s greatest drifters Ken Block is in town!

Block, a professional rally driver for the Hoonigan Racing Division, shared videos on his Instagram status showing his car (Porsche 911) being unloaded from a flatbed truck onto the service area.

High-speed slide champion Block is here alongside Italian co-driver Alex Gelsomino, who will be driving to test for the East African Safari Rally Classic from 10-18 February 2022.

“Tomorrow Alex Gelsomino and I will do our first test together (day 1 of 2 of the test) for our final preparation for the East African Safari Classic Rally in Kenya! I’ve wanted to take part in this historic event for a long time as it is one of the most epic and classic rally races in the world. And I’m really excited to be driving a 1984 Porsche 911 built and prepared by @TuthillPorsche,” Block tweeted.

Who is Ken Block?

Born in Falcon, Colorado in November 1967, Block is an American driver known for his drifting and competing in several action sport events including motocross and skateboarding.

He started rallying in 2005 and will be competing in the East African Safari Classic Rally for the first time.

He finished seventh in his very first event, fifth overall (Sno Drift). He made the top five five times and finished third overall in the Group A class and fourth overall in the Rally America National Championship.

He has also accumulated five X Games medals since the beginning of his career. He was a silver medalist at the 2013 Global X Games Barcelona Rallycross.

Block is also the founder of Hoonigan. You’ve seen cars with Hoonigan stickers. Now you know where that came from.

An online resource defines Hoonigas as “a person who operates a motor vehicle in an aggressive and unorthodox manner, including but not limited to: drifting, burnouts, donuts, and automotive aviation acts.” Now the Hooner-in-Chief is in town.

And Webster’s dictionary defines drifting as “the act or activity of steering a car so that it swerves sideways through a curve in a controlled manner, with the front wheels pointed in a direction opposite to that of the curve.”

Since this is a useful skill, Safari will require more of Block. You flat out and break the car up, meaning you’ll be unlucky enough to see what you thought were stragglers with the hood ripped open.

Switch to chameleon mode and finish the rally a day later!
