HARRISBURG — The Huron 13U club were a late Harrisburg rally away from a clean Wednesday in Harrisburg, dropping the opener 11-10 before winning the second game 16-4.
Harrisburg opened the scoring in the opening game and built a 3-0 lead over Huron before the visitors took a 7-point lead in the third inning. Harrisburg would regain the lead with two runs in the bottom third of the third and three more in the fourth inning to take an 8-7 lead.
Huron added a run at the top of the fifth and two at the top of the sixth to take a 10-8 lead, but then Harrisburg’s offense added three more at the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 11-10 lead in the to take over lake. saw the affair, and Huron failed to reply in the top of the seventh.
Landon Schutt started the game for Huron with 2 2/3 innings before giving way to Davis Chase and eventually Jeremy Hofer.
The Huron offense included a total of 18 baserunners in the game, although no batsman had multiple hits. Hofer went ahead and reached the base three times with a single and two walks while stealing a base.
Blaise Simmon missed a double and stole a base while Schutt, Hunter Fenske, Cooper Bischoff, Gavin Waldner and Teagan Lien each added more steals.
Huron scored early and often to walk away with a run rule win in game two.
Chase Schuchhardt started the game on the mound for Huron and went 2 1/3 innings. Peyton Bischoff and Simmon each added 1/3 of an inning in relief before Tyce Huber closed the game with an inning of scoreless relief.
Hofer led the Huron’s smashing attack with a double, a triple and a pair of stolen bases. Cooper Bischoff had a double, a single, a walk and stole a base.
The Huron team rampaged on bases overall, stealing 16 bases in the game. Waldner stole three bases, Diego Colon and Simmon stole two each, and Fenske, Schutt, Chase, Schuchhardt, Lien, and Huber had one steal each.
The 13U club enters the Bob Deery Classic tournament in Yankton today with a 13-14 record.
