Mitchell helps Jazz win 107-95 while Bucks loses third in a row

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Donovan Mitchell scored 28 points and the Utah Jazz beat the understaffed Milwaukee Bucks 107-95 on Sunday to give the reigning NBA champion their third straight defeat.

Both teams played the second straight night when the Bucks lost 102-93 to San Antonio and the Jazz 107-99 in Chicago.

Mike Conley added 20 points, Jordan Clarkson had 15 and Bojan Bogdanovic added 14 as Utah bounced back from its first loss of the season.

Milwaukee has lost three home games in the last five nights, shooting 27.5% (36 of 131) out of the 3-point range in that time. The Bucks opened the home stand with a 113-108 loss to Minnesota.

Khris Middleton missed Sunday’s game due to illness, which added another handicap to a Milwaukee team that had already played without the usual starters Jrue Holiday, Brook Lopez and Donte DiVincenzo due to injury. Reserve striker Rodney Hood left with a bruise on his right hand after just 11 minutes of play.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Utah made its first five 3-point attempts and stayed behind all night. Whenever the Bucks tried to rally in the second half, Mitchell responded.

When the Bucks got down to five points in less than five minutes in the third quarter, Mitchell Utah’s first scored seven points in a 12-2 run that gave the jazz some breathing space. Before that stretch, Mitchell hadn’t scored a goal in a 10-point first quarter.

After falling 17 down in the final minute of the third period, Milwaukee came back within five of the middle of the fourth period. Mitchell responded by scoring five points in a 9-1 sprint.

Grayson Allen made a 3-pointer to reduce Utah’s lead 1:39 to 99-95, but Mitchell made the next two hoops of the game to seal the win.

Allen had 18 points. The Bucks also got 15 from Bobby Portis, 11 from George Hill and 10 from Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

Bucks: Middleton’s illness disrupted his quest to become the most prolific 3-point shooter in Bucks history. Middleton has 1,049 3-pointers since joining the Bucks, two of them away from Ray Allen’s franchise record of 1,051. … Grayson Allen has hit double digits in seven games in a row, a career high.

Jazz: Utah has won its last three games with the Bucks. Utah swept its two regular season matches with the Bucks last year, winning 131-118 in Milwaukee and 129-115 in Salt Lake City.

Jazz: Host Sacramento on Tuesday. Utah defeated the Kings in Sacramento on October 22nd with 110-101 for their sixth straight win of the series.

Bucks: On Tuesday in Detroit. The Bucks have won their last 10 regular season meetings with the Pistons.
