Motorsport recap: Lewis Hamilton wins the F1 Russian Grand Prix, Jehan Daruvala at F2 Russia, 2021 MRF MMSC INRC Rd1 and more

There was no shortage of racing action in the past week thanks to Formula 1 and Formula 2 in Russia. We also had the season opener for the MRF at home MMSC INRC. Here is the low point:

formula One

At the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Russia 2021, a thriller took place in Sochi, in which the weather god brought a dramatic end to it. In the end, Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton secured his 100th win, followed by Max Verstappen’s Red Bull Honda in second place and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in third place. In the title race, Hamilton now leads with seven laps to go, just two points ahead of Verstappen in the drivers’ standings.

Formula 2

The sixth round of the Formula 2 championship in 2021 was a pretty twisted weekend for Carlins Jehan Daruvala. In qualifying, the Indian had an incident towards the end of the sprint race that caused him to drop from fifth to twelfth place. Daruvala more than made up for this difficult result and finished third in the main race on the podium. Off the track, Formula 2 is returning to its 2020 race format for the 2022 season, in which there will only be one sprint race and one feature race.

After a season break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship started in 2021 at the MMRT in Chennai. The top award in the opening round of the season was Anindith Reddy (Rayo Racing) in the ITC class, with Shahan Ali Mohsin dominating the MRF 1600 class. In the Volkswagen Polo class, Pratik Sonawane won the last race of the weekend.

Goodwood Revival

The motorsport world also took a trip back in time with the Goodwood Revival 2021. Not only did racing cars from the 1950s and 1960s compete against each other for the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy, the drivers, mechanics and spectators were also dressed in a retro look. It also celebrates Rolex’s 90 year association with motorsport and is partner of the event as the official timepiece.

team Red Rabbit Racers organized a talent search program in Pune with a total of 46 participants on the KartDrome go-kart track. At the event, Arjun Khaire won with Neythan McPherson and Aniket Hazare on the podium in second and third place. The winners get the opportunity to train with the team together with Level 1 Kart Training at Meco Kartopia Bangalore, together with Level international, Formula LGB 1300 and even the Indian Touring Car Championship.

MotoGP will resume next week in Austin, USA, for the Grand Prix of the Americas. The WRC will also return to racing with the Rally Finland.
