NASCAR Best Bets: Motorsport Tips, DraftKings Sportsbook odds to consider for the Xfinity 500 in Martinsville

If it looks like NASCAR hits best bets every week, it’s because they do. This article has named the winner in five of the last six races (excluding the plate race). In the week leading up to the current streak, bets were narrowly missed at Darlington after correct picks at Indy and Michigan. If you’re wondering what happened to the picks off Michigan, the answer is that the article didn’t exist. This became a weekly article in late summer and has since wiped out.

Blaney almost won twice in Martinsville, most recently in the spring. Anyone who’s seen the spring race knows that Blaney had the best car by far. His short run speed wasn’t great, but he could stop strong short run cars. In the long run nobody was in his zip code. So what is there, why didn’t he win with such a great car? During the final pit stop, an air hose caught on his tire as he pulled out and Blaney was fined for taking equipment out of the pit. He was sent to the rear. Without this penalty, Blaney wins the Martinsville spring race with ease.

This doesn’t seem like a Bowman track, but what is a Bowman track? Was Richmond a Bowman track? He finished in the top five the entire race at Richmond and finished with a great pit stop and restart and won that race with high horsepower and low downforce. He showed similar feet in Dover in that same 750 pack. Dover is a very different route, but Richmond is a short, flat route and is in the same peer group as Martinsville. More importantly, Bowman had a top 5, if not a top 3 car in the Martinsville spring race, but he was rallied in the massive pile-up wreck in the third stage that was nearly half the field mattered. If he had avoided this wreck, it would be possible that by the end of the race he could have capitalized on much like his wins at Richmond and Dover.

Martinsville is a special route for Hendrick for a number of reasons. This track receives a lot of R&D focus, and the additional attention has borne fruit over the past three decades. Chase Elliott won that race last fall and finished second last spring. Bowman was mentioned above. William Byron almost won that race in Fall 2019, finishing eighth in Spring 2020 and fourth in Spring 2021. Perhaps the biggest clue to Hendrick’s dominance on the track is Kyle Larson. Martinsville was Larson’s worst track on the track in his entire career, but finished fifth in his first race at The Paperclip with HMS.

Austin Dillon had a top 10 car in the spring race. Keep in mind that RCR and Hendrick Motorsports formed a technical alliance last season in mid-2020. In the 750 package races, the RCR / Hendrick engines were the best to complete the 2020 season – Elliott won the last two 750 package races and the championship. Hendrick also accumulates victories this season. RCR may not win races, but their Chevys are light years ahead of their 2019 cars. Dillon finished the spring race in 14th place but could have been fighting for a top five finish. That did not happen because he received a severe penalty of one lap during a pit stop because he had serviced his car outside the pit.

Bubba Wallace finished the spring race in Martinsville (16th), despite the opposite luck, worse than Dillon. Bubba was two laps behind in the second stage while Dillon was fighting in the top 10. After a wave of warnings and one wave after the other, when the flag man waved the yellow flag 15 times, Bubba not only came back into the lead but inherited the lead with fresh tires. He wasted this gift because he’s not a great driver in this package and his car is not a top 10 car.

Bubba Wallace had the 15th best average running position in Martinsville, not too far behind Austin Dillon’s 11th best average running position. However, that was with luck on his side and bad breaks against Dillon. In a neutral race, Dillon is 10 points better than Wallace.

Bonus tip! If the head-to-head match isn’t juicy enough, we throw two more drivers into the mix and raise the odds. Group E includes Ross Chastain +250, Bubba Wallace +260, Chris Buescher +290, and Austin Dillon +280. In the spring race, Austin Dillon drove 108 laps in the top 10, while Buescher drove 52 laps in the top 10 and Chastain drove eight laps in the top 10. Chastain’s average running position was 24. Although Buescher finished better than Dillon in the first run, his average running position was 16. – much worse than Dillon’s average of 11.
