Pitt Basketball Announces Home Game Promotions

Pittsburgh – Promotional dates and themes for the 2022-23 Pitt Men’s Basketball schedule have been announced for the Panthers’ home board at the Petersen Events Center.

Pitt rebuilt his roster for Capel’s fifth season by retaining core players from a year ago in Honorable Mention All-ACC Big Man John Hugley IVexperienced guards Jamarius Burton and Nike Sibandealong with talented young wings William Jeffress and Nate Santos.

The Panthers used the transfer portal, as well as the late spring contract signing, to land several new signings ready to fight for the early season. Degree Transfer Guards Nelly Cummings and Greg Elliott as well as bank transfer Blake Hinson Bring experience, basketball IQ, scoring pop, and three-point shooting to the rotation while JUCO centers Federico Federico adds size, rebounds and central defense to the team.

Pitt will host Clarion (Oct. 22) and Edinboro (Nov. 2) in plays before opening the season against Tennessee Martin on Monday, Nov. 7 at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers also host West Virginia (Nov. 11) in the 189thth Meeting the Backyard Brawl before traveling to Brooklyn to face off against last season’s top 25 opponent Michigan in the opening round of the Legends Classic (Nov. 16).

REMARKS

  • The 2022-23 version of the Panthers has played 631 career games, 159 games more than last season’s roster and 300 games more than Capel’s first-season roster in Pitt.
  • Cummings, Burton, Sibande and Elliott have each played over 100 career games.
  • Cummings, Burton, and Sibande have each started at least 75 career games.
  • Pitt goes into the season with five players who have had 70 or more three-point field goals in their careers.
  • Sibande (203), Cummings (149), Elliott (94), Hinson (91) and Burton (70) have combined 607 career three-pointers.
  • Last season, Pitt’s roster started the season with just 203 career 3-point field goals (not counting Sibande, who missed the season with a knee injury).
  • Hugley IV is one of two returning players in the ACC (along with Armando Bacot, North Carolina) to average 14.5 or more points and 7.5 or more rebounds per game a year ago.
  • Sibande (1,570 points) returns from injury to combine with Cummings (1,112) and Burton (1,003) to give Pitt three 1,000-point scorers in backcourt.
  • Hinson returns to the action after missing the last two seasons. He averaged 9.1 points and made 91 three-point field goals while starting 58 of 60 career games with Ole Miss.

  • International Student Thanksgiving – All international students unable to go home for Thanksgiving Break are invited to attend the game in the club suites

Friday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m. – William & Mary

  • The price is the right night – It’s Black Friday and to celebrate, Pitt will be hosting various Price Is Right games during media breaks. Plinko, Dice, Any Number and more classic Price is Right games are available for fans!

Saturday, December 10 at 3:30 p.m. – Sacred Heart

  • Say goodbye to the Oakland Zoo – This is the last home game before the Oakland Zoo leaves campus for winter break, so Pitt will be throwing one last party for the zoo to thank them for their support!

Saturday, December 17 @ 1:00 p.m. – North Florida

  • holiday tires – It’s the last men’s basketball game in Pittsburgh before the holiday season, and we’re giving away Pitt mugs to early fans to keep them warm this winter
