Porsche Team SSR Performance is committed to DTM entry with two cars

The Munich team had a wildcard appearance at the Nürburgring at the beginning of the year and was thus represented in the series for the first time.

Inspired by his performance, with GT Masters champion Michael Ammermüller, who qualified the car in the second row and drove well in both races, SSR Performance has now decided to start the DTM season in full next year.

No announcement has been made regarding the driver line-up, but the two Porsches from SSR Performance will have start numbers # 92 and # 94.

“Entry into the DTM is very important to our young company. It was therefore particularly important to us to have a competitive line-up with two cars at the start, ”says Stefan Schlund, Managing Director of SSR Performance.

“I think the next few weeks and months will be very exciting. There is still a lot of work to be done before the start of the season in Portimão, but we like challenges. “

At least six year-round manufacturers are expected in the second season of the DTM GT3 formula, including the four major German brands Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Porsche.

Audi will at least be represented by Abt Sportsline, who have already announced that Nürburgring 24-hour winner Kelvin van der Linde will remain in the championship for another title attack in 2022.

Again, a bumpers list of Mercedes vehicles is expected, with GruppeM already announcing an extended two-car entry for the new season.

Although no BMW team has yet committed to the 2022 DTM season, after an extensive racing and test program in 2021, high demand for the Bavarian brand’s new M4 GT3 racer is expected.

The Italian super sports car brand Lamborghini will provide factory support to Grasser Racing, which is giving up all of its existing racing programs in order to field four Huracan GT3s in the DTM next year.

Motorsport.com also recently announced that Red Bull and Ferrari will stay in the category for another year despite losing Liam Lawson’s title in a controversial Norising final.

“The teams’ nominations for the DTM 2022 are developing positively,” says ITR Managing Director Benedikt Böhme.

“We are well on the way to experiencing an even more exciting season next year. Porsche is a legendary sports car brand, SSR Performance already shines as a young team with notable titles. Together they will increase the level of competition in the DTM and the attractiveness of the fans. “
