The International Rally of the Lakes, which takes place in Killarney from April 29th to May 1st, gets underway on Sunday.
To date there have been over 200 entries with a full allocation of cars expected when the event kicks off with a ceremonial launch pad in the city center on Friday 29th.
Entertainment for children is planned on Main Street before the rumble of competing cars through downtown is sure to kick off the event, festival style!
The actual rally starts late Saturday morning with the crews tackling 3 stages in the East Kerry area before it’s time to fix the car and change some tires before heading back out on the same 3 stages in the afternoon , giving crews over 100km of competitive driving that is sure to challenge some of the best drivers in the country.
As dawn breaks in the Kingdom on Sunday, crews have 8 stages to complete if they are to make history and add their name to the Rally of the Lakes victories. The iconic Molls Gap and Ballaghbeama stages will each be driven twice before we make our way to Shanera and Caragh Lake to decide who will win the awards at Sunday night’s awards ceremony at the Gleneagle Hotel, which also houses the finish ramp award ceremony.
For a first rally in 2022, the rally has 3 title sponsors ensuring the rally is financially viable with Rentokil Initial being title sponsors for the club’s sister Historic Rally, Aherns.ie Motorgroup in Castleisland, as well as The Gleneagle Hotel and OSI, who have long supported this prestigious event
The rally will officially open at The Gleneagle Hotel this Sunday, with negotiations beginning at 3am.
Event Director Darren McCormick emphasizes that everyone is invited to attend an afternoon of talks and photos, which marks the club’s official launch of the event.
