Saudia Cargo is sponsoring Mashael Al-Obaidan’s participation in the World Cup for the Cross Country Rally “Baja” in Italy and Spain

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Airlines Cargo is expanding its sponsorship of Saudi rally driver Mashael Al-Obaidan, the first woman from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region to receive a rally license and race in Dakar.

Mashael Al-Obaidan took part in the third round of the World Cup for cross-country rally “Baja”, held in Italy on July 8-10, and finished in the top 20.

Saudia Cargo’s sponsorship aligns with the Kingdom’s vision to support talented women who inspire their communities. It is a continuation of the previous stage during the last Dakar Rally in the Kingdom, where Saudia Cargo’s strategic partnership with Rally Champion Mashael Al-Obaidan highlighted the presence of Saudi women in international forums and global sporting competitions after showing many excellent performances in different areas.

Mashael Al-Obaidan reinforced her qualifications as a rally driver by becoming the first woman from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region to compete in a world rally in Europe by competing in the 2021 Baja Aragoan Rally Spain, the fifth round of the Baja Cross Country Championship organized by the FIA.

Added to this is second place in the T3 category at the Ha’il International Rally, the final round of the World Cross-Country Championship, and their participation in the 2022 Dakar Rally, hosted by the Kingdom for the third consecutive year with the participation of 70 different nationalities from all categories of the rally.

Saudia Cargo’s involvement in Baja sponsorship fits the brand very well and demonstrates shared values of performance, reliability and agility, which are core values of the sport.

On the pilot and mechanical side, all racers and the cars must demonstrate agility to overcome challenges and overcome difficult weather conditions and rough terrain. Mashael Al-Obaidan is the embodiment of courage and resilience. Navigate different terrains, overcome unexpected obstacles and finish the race. This is also very similar to the environment of the air freight industry.

An endurance race to make it to the finish line! For example, when her brakes failed during the race, she persevered and kept going. In addition, it is a shared value that local racing teams support each other. Going the extra mile and sharing moments of triumph has also led to the creation of an award that highlights these human values.

Widely recognized as the most challenging motorsport event in the world, Italy and Spain Bajas are a great showcase for rally performance. Successfully engaged in many areas through technical partnerships for many years, aviation is certainly one of them. The timely delivery of vehicle components and driver supplies in difficult terrain and changing weather conditions requires smooth logistics during a long-distance rally from the starting grid to the finish line.

Saudia Cargo recognizes and understands these supply chain challenges as part of its core competency in handling time-sensitive pharmaceuticals, perishables and e-commerce for its network of customers around the world.

Mashael AlObaidan and Saudia Cargo work in partnership because they share the same ambition to take on tough challenges to succeed, be it on the ground or in the air.
