Solberg tipped three rounds of the opening volley

Oliver Solberg is expected to start the first three rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship next year before handing over the third Hyundai i20 N WRC Rally1 to Dani Sordo in Portugal in May.

Hyundai Motorsport has confirmed that Solberg will compete in the season opener of the Monte-Carlo Rally (January 20-23) together with regular guests from 2022 Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville.

Sordo has also admitted that he didn’t expect to drive the new Hybrid Rally1 car before the first gravel lap of the season at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

That means Solberg would be on the pitch at Monte-Carlo, Rally Sweden in February and Rally Croatia in April – with his older Spanish teammate ready to help.

Sordo said, “I’m going to start spending time doing a bit of work in the car and while everyone is focusing on Oliver trying to help him and prepare him as best as possible to perform at his best.

“At the moment I think I’ll do four rallies, something like that. After that we’ll see if I do anything else or whatever, I don’t know. I don’t know what I’ll do next year at the moment. “

Solberg has raced at Monte-Carlo for the past two years, but it was at last year’s winter race in Finland that he signaled his intentions with a highly acclaimed run in seventh place on his debut in a factory world rally car.

“I definitely enjoyed the snow,” Solberg told WRC.com. “It was so much fun driving these cars on these stages. It was a lot of fun.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do next year – I’m waiting to hear from the team. As you can imagine, I hope to do as much as I can. I want to drive these cars all the time. “
