Supercars and custom bikes roar into Dubai Digital Park for the inaugural Kandura Rally

More than 100 supercars and muscle cars raced into Dubai Digital Park on Saturday night as part of a new motorsport event.

Described as “the coolest motoring event where style meets luxury and adventure”, the Kandura Rally, run in partnership with the Emirates Motorsports Organisation, invited male participants to wear traditional clothing or the Kandura.

The inaugural event attracted many big names in the automotive industry, as well as well-known influencers such as Tony Keyrouz and YouTuber Rashed Belhasa, aka Money Kicks.

It included a parade that started at 18:00 at the Dubai Autodrome before driving past attractions such as the Museum of the Future and the Meydan Bridge and ending at the Dubai Silicon Oasis with a family-friendly event.

Dozens of cars and motorcycles took part. Hummers, Porsches, Mini Coopers, Maseratis and Mustangs were available for the spectators to admire alongside some classic cars. Dubai police cars were also seen.

There were also many modified vehicles. An award-winning Joker-style Dodge Challenger SRT8 made an appearance, as did an allusive car avatarthe film name in bright lights on the front and a crazy maxTruck and “Car of Terror” in the style of a truck with disco balls in the back and grim reaper dolls next to it.

A Volkswagen Golf GTI drew attention as it was covered in bloody handprints and red spatter.

The event also included a competition with prizes worth Dh25,000. The Joker-themed Dodge won Best Airbrush Car and first place in the Modified Saloon category, while Keyrouz’ Jeep Gladiator IronSide also took home a grand prize.

Islam Hammad, owner of the first Maserati GT Wide-Body Edition in the Gulf, or the Maserati Mean Machine, took home the Best Supercar award.

Another highlight of the event was a performance by the children of RK Dance Studio, partners of the International Indian Film Academy Awards.

Pragna Vaya, managing director of organizer Orbit Events and Promotions, says this is the “first of many to come” and that the Kandura Rally aims to be “the most important event for all motorsport enthusiasts living in Dubai”.

“Kandura will be the ultimate demonstration of pure automotive artistry,” she said ahead of the event. “It will bring out the true spirit of Dubai while celebrating the city’s automotive heritage and appetite for a glamorous lifestyle.”
