8. Honda S800

In 8th place among our best Honda sports cars comes the Honda S800, a two-door two-seater sports car that was produced from 1966 to 1970. It was available either as a coupe or as a convertible.

Before the famous S600 with a redline of 9500 RPM, the S800, with its advanced technical specifications and British sports car styling, developed a worldwide curiosity about Japanese vehicles that were previously not considered equivalent by European automakers.

Its advanced 791 cc in-line DOHC four-cylinder engine produced an astounding 70 horsepower and was mated with a fully synchromesh 4-speed gearbox that led to the rear wheels. With this level of performance, the vehicle was able to reach a high speed of 100 miles at the time, which was more than any other vehicle of this level could ever achieve.

11,536 copies of the Honda S800 were produced before production of the vehicle ceased in 1970.


7. Honda Civic Type R EK9

The Honda Civic Type R is a Hot Hatch that was manufactured by Honda from 1997 to 2001 and is based on the 6th generation of the Civic. After the NSX and the Integrale Type R DC2, the EK9 Civic was the third vehicle to receive the “Type R” badge. Unfortunately, the EK9 is rarely seen in the US and UK as they were only released for the Japanese market.

The Civic Type R was designed as a road rally car. It had a naturally aspirated engine, a sporty chassis and its aerodynamic body was developed in the wind tunnel.

It comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that develops a whopping 182 hp at 8200 rpm – one of the highest liter outputs that can be delivered by a naturally aspirated engine. Weighing in at just 2,366 pounds, the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 140 mph.


6. Honda NSX-Type R

The Honda NSX-Type R is an absolute monster. The power, the handling, the speed, the precise steering – is that even possible? The NSX-Type R is Honda’s stylish version of a racing car and can sprint from 0 to 60 in just 5.7 seconds.

Although engineers compromise to strike a balance between raw performance and everyday rideability for the NSX released in 1990, the 1992 NSX-Type R debut was tailored for riders looking for an uncompromising racing experience.

The NSX Type-R is powered by a 3-liter mid-engine V6 that develops 276 hp at 7300 rpm. Its high-revving engine incorporates some innovative manufacturing technologies, including titanium connecting rods, forged pistons and the VTEC valve train.

After the engine was perfected, Honda focused on weight reduction in an already light NSX with an aluminum body. The seats were carbon-kevlar Recaro seats, relatively light and simple steering and a titanium gearbox. In addition, all windows, the rear window and the windshield have been made thinner. But that was not all; Honda even ditched the air conditioning and gave the stereo as an optional merchandise that wasn’t available in standard versions. This allowed Honda to reduce the weight of the car by about 265 pounds from the standard NSX.

Honda only produced 483 copies of the NSX-R, all of which were sold in Japan, making it a rare sight in the US or the UK.


5. Honda Integra Type R

The Honda Integra was already making booming noises when it was launched, with over a quarter of a million cars sold in its first year. It didn’t stop; Honda cast bigger and better beasts every year when it came to the Integra. It wasn’t until 1997 that Honda launched what is considered to be the best front-wheel drive ever. It was the Honda Integra Type R.

Honda is committed to making it as light as possible. They lost 140 pounds from the Integra GS-R, plus they reduced the lens thickness by 10% and even removed the vanity mirrors in the visors. There wasn’t even a cruise control or rear window wiper on the car.

Honda’s famous V-TEC technology was introduced in the first Acura Integra and hasn’t changed for the Type R either. This machine is equipped with a 1.8-liter B18C5 engine that has an output of 195 hp and can start from standstill to 100 km / h in just 6.5 seconds.

This car was built for performance and the chassis was even seam welded which is only done for racing cars.

Other exclusive features of the Type R included lower and stiffer suspension parts as well as reduced gear ratios for the 5-speed manual transmission.

With the Integra Type R, critics and drivers were in agreement. This car was simple, precise and one of the best front-wheel drive cars ever.

4. Honda S2000 AP1

Considered one of the greatest Honda cars of all time, the S2000 is an open-top sports car introduced by the Japanese automaker in 1999 with the chassis designation “AP1”.

It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder DOHC-VTEC front engine with a naturally aspirated engine that can produce 240 hp at 8,300 rpm and is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is a front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car similar to the Mazda MX-5.

Although the Honda S2000 can rev up impressively to a redline of 8900 rpm, only one other naturally aspirated engine comes close, the Ferrari 360 Modena.

Production lasted until 2003 and was only offered in 4 colors: red, white, black and silver.

3. Honda Civic Type R FK8

The Honda Civic Type R FK8 is a sensational hot hatch that first hit the market in 2017. Its aggressive silhouette makes a bold statement with a sharp, aggressive “face” and pronounced wheel arches.

Despite his polarizing appearance, his performance speaks for itself. With a lap time of 7: 43.8 seconds, he set a new Nürburgring record for vehicles with front-wheel drive.

Under the hood is the refined 2.0-liter VTEC-TURBO engine, which is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission – with an output of 316 hp at 6500 rpm. 2. Honda S2000 Club Racer

The Honda S2000 CR is the “C.lub R.acer ”or route-oriented version of Honda’s legendary roadster with reduced weight and increased performance. It was unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in 2007, and while it had the same 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder DOHC-VTEC naturally aspirated engine, it had several different modifications.

The CR has a revised body kit that consists of a redesigned front lip and a larger spoiler. Other modifications include a detachable hardtop, stiffer suspension, stickier Bridgestone RE070 tires, and a faster handlebar.

Although Honda planned to build around 2,000 units, they only produced 699 of these between model years 2008 and 2009, which indeed makes them a very rare Honda sports car.
