The rally was named the best sporting event of the year in Greece at the prestigious Boussias Sports Marketing Awards in Athens after being reinstated into the WRC for the first time since 2013.
The Acropolis team, led by Deputy Sports Minister and President of the Rally Organizing Committee Lefteris Avgenakis, also won six gold awards in categories including motorsport, sports and tourism, and eSports.
The opening stage of the rally, Cosmote 5G Athens, in the streets surrounding Syntagma Square and the Greek Parliament in the city center also received a Gold award for Best Sponsorship Platform for brand/sponsor engagement and activation.

The team also won Silver awards for Best Overall Social Media Presence and Best Sponsorship Program, while the event’s Official Program won a Bronze award in the Best Special Edition category.
Marketing Manager George Papazafiropoulos and his company Magic Bus won the Sports Marketing Agency of the Year award.
Avgenakis (pictured below) paid tribute to the Acropolis team after receiving the night’s top honor.
“A year ago we announced the return of the Acropolis Rally to the World Rally Championship. Until then we had said little but achieved a lot. A lot of people challenged us,” said Avgenakis.
“However, the EKO Acropolis Rally is here to stay and the current recognition of our efforts and efforts through these awards is the strongest endorsement of the bright future of our event.
“It is with great honor that I accept this award and dedicate it to all those who worked quietly, methodically and as tireless soldiers before, during and after the event.”
From September 8th to 11th, the rally will be the 10th round of the 2022 season.
