Various teams from Kenya, the USA, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Zimbabwe, Oman and South Africa compete for the ultimate prize in the Mini East African Safari Classic Rally, which starts at the Karen Waterfront.
The three-day event will lead over 1,000 kilometers through the rough Amboseli terrain, which stands for the largest classic rally in the world. This mini rally is being held as the forerunner of the 10th edition, which will take place from February 10th to 18th, 2022.
The Kenyan team is headed by Eric Bengi and navigator Gatimu Mindo. You took part in this year’s WRC Safari Rally 2021 and will take part in the East African Safari Classic Rally for the first time in a legendary rally car, the Datsun 180B. Other rally marquee brands such as Porsche, Ford, Skoda and Peugeot will be joined by âraidâ vehicles such as cars and buggies from CR-T and Land Rover.
In consultation with the Ministry of Health, the event’s attendees, organizers, sponsors, and auxiliaries will adhere to strict COVID-19 protocols, including mandatory and regular PCR testing, social distancing, and the wearing of masks.
âThe day is finally here. We went to great lengths to ensure the safety of drivers, rally enthusiasts, passers-by and wildlife while putting on a great show. Our course is designed, among other things, to avoid populated areas and to raise general safety awareness among drivers and the community, âsaid Event Director Tash Tundo.
“As a significant group of people, we took our responsibilities regarding COVID-19 very seriously and created one of the largest sports bubbles in Africa,” Tundo added. This sports bubble will also bring significant investment in hard-hit, tourism-sensitive economies like Amboseli, with over 1,000 hotel rooms occupied and an injection of more than $ 1 million into the Kenyan economy.
While the local economy benefits, the eyes of the world can watch the rally through new technological innovations such as live tracking of vehicles available on the rally website and through their social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
