Toparis confirmed for FIA Motorsport Games

Costa Toparis has been selected to compete in the Formula 4 Cup at the FIA Motorsport Games.

The final member of Team Australia’s 2022 FIA Motorsport Games campaign, Costa Toparis has been confirmed to compete in the Formula 4 Cup.

With the second edition of the Games taking place later this month, the addition of Toparis is a major boost for Team Australia, who now have eight drivers competing in motorsport’s ‘Olympic Games’.

While not the most experienced driver on the Formula 4 entry list, Toparis has a winning mentality and was very successful in his junior karting years.

Last year the New South Wales youngster’s raw talent got permission to compete in the Ferrari Driver Academy’s World Scouting Finals, but Australia’s border restrictions made travel difficult and forced him to withdraw.

The decision to stay at home only motivated the New South Welshman as he spent much of 2022 testing in an F4 car run by the highly regarded team AGI Sport while honing his racing craft at the Motorsport Australia NSW Motor Race Championships .

Competing as part of the State Championship in single-seater cars, Toparis finished second for the season despite missing a lap and piloted his Mygale M14-F4 to a race win, pole position, three fastest laps and five other podiums in his six races.

Toparis, invited again this year to take part in the Ferrari Driver Academy, has had to withdraw from the competition due to other commitments but still has an intense testing program ahead for the remainder of 2022, which includes a stint in Formula 4 United Arab Emirates Emirates includes Championship.

When he was selected for the FIA Motorsport Games, the 15-year-old was keen to represent his country in what will be the first of many international appearances.

“I feel privileged and am looking forward to starting at the FIA Motorsport Games. The excitement surrounding the event and the enthusiasm from all countries is unbelievable. I especially want to thank my sponsor Rodin Cars for believing in my potential and creating these opportunities for me,” said Toparis.

“The amount of effort and work that goes into the FIA Motorsport Games is amazing and I can’t wait to get out on track and race against some of the best in the world.

“I am flattered and proud to have been selected by Motorsport Australia to represent Australia at such a high profile event, I am confident that I will prove myself on the world stage.

“Coming into the event I feel confident that I can perform when needed and that we will be at the finish all weekend – I believe we have a great opportunity to be successful during the games.

“I have no doubt that the FIA Motorsport Games will help my career and will be a great experience both on and off the track. I’m sure it will advance my career regardless of the outcome and help set a clear path for the next steps in my motorsport journey.

“I think what I’m most looking forward to is getting to know the new car, its unique appearance will offer great parity between the cars and it will offer a level playing field with the best in the world.

“To race in all other countries will be exciting to say the least and a great competition in the Formula 4 discipline.”

The addition of Toparis to the team will see him join Stephen and Brenton Grove (GT Endurance), Matt Campbell (GT Sprint), Aiva Anagnostiadis and Peter Bouzinelos (Karting), Philippa Boquida (Digital Cup) and Aaron Cameron (Touring Car). .

Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca was delighted with Team Australia’s final line-up for the Games and believed Toparis would be a welcome addition to the squad.

“Congratulations to Costa who will proudly represent Team Australia. We are thrilled to have such a fantastic young ambassador for sport at the Games,” said Arocca.

“The already great interest in Costa confirms that he is a very special talent who is capable of anything. Hopefully he can take home a medal.
