Last year’s Velocity Invitational at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was a classic, trend-setting race weekend. If you missed it, plan now for the event’s return in Monterey, California on October 14-16 – a one-of-a-kind classic car racing event featuring a gourmet food and wine pavilion, wine tasting tents, luxurious spectator accommodation and a static vehicle displays and of course races on one of the most spectacular street circuits in North America.
A host of historic racers will share the top spots on the weekend feature list with a selection of McLarens from its Formula 1 and Sportscar teams; an enclosure of rally cars from multiple eras, courtesy of DirtFish; and amazing array of hypercars.
The McLaren line-up includes Ayrton Senna’s MP4/5B-07, which won the 1990 Formula One World Championship and won six out of 16 races that year; Alain Prost’s MP4/2B-3, which won the 1985 F1 title; the F1 GT12R that competed at Le Mans in 1996; plus others including several McLaren F1 road cars.
In addition to celebrating motorsport history, fans will be able to see some of the world’s most refined hypercars in action from multiple manufacturers, including the 2022 Hennessey Venom F5 Coupe and F5 Roadster, which made their public debut during Monterey Car Week at The Quail; the new Czinger 21C V with 1,233 hp – from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds; and the Zenvo TSR-S, a Danish hypercar that features an active multi-axis rear wing that rotates with the steering to increase downforce at the required wheel.
Meanwhile, Velocity Invitational is pleased to welcome America’s top rally experts, Seattle-based DirtFish Rally School. Owner Steve Rimmer will supply six of the sport’s most iconic rally cars, including a Group B Lancia Rally 037, an MG Metro 6R4, a Subaru Impreza and a Peugeot 206 WRC.
The stunning collection of rally cars will be driven by two members of motorsport’s most well-known family – Alister McRae and his son Max.
“It’s an honor to have such historic and cutting-edge race and rally cars from all eras participate in our event,” said Velocity Invitational Founder Jeff O’Neill. “My goal is to showcase the best of the best at the Velocity Invitational, and the racing experience of these cars will be at home both in the pits and on the track this year.”
