At this point it is not surprising to hear that a Riverdale Character is about to explode randomly. Fresh from a witchy alternate dimensions arc, this genre-bending teen drama goes all out with a totally unexpected superpowered twist. With all these inexplicable supernatural things going down, the town of Riverdale is more dangerous than ever – look no further than Riverdale‘s Season 6 Episode 10 promo teaser as proof.
Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers from Riverdale Season 6, Episode 9. Step aside, Hiram Lodge, because Riverdale has its first indeed Supervillain in Percival Pickens. The mysterious descendant of Riverdale’s founder seemed like just a common jerk at first, until Jughead, Archie and Betty realized he had the power to control minds and began brainwashing the entire town.
Although Archie, Betty, and Jughead all have their own superpowers now (Archie is invulnerable, Betty can perceive menacing auras, and Jughead can read minds), their approach to defeating a villain is the same as always: a boxing match. The Episode 10 teaser shows Archie taking on Percival in the boxing ring – Archie’s classic go-to place for conflict.
While Archie dons boxing gloves, that’s nothing new, but it looks like things in Thornhill are somehow even weirder than ever. The teaser shows Cheryl worryingly discussing “spontaneous human cremation” with Betty, while a pile of ashes can be seen on one of her chairs, with only the person’s feet remaining.
The synopsis for the new episode, titled Folk Heroes, reveals a little more detail about what’s going on in this promo. Archie’s match against Percival sounds like it’s just one of several Herculean tasks he’ll have to face to get the city back behind him. Meanwhile, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Veronica will spend Season 6 apart from the rest of the Core Four as her story revolves around protecting her casino business from Percival alongside Toni and Tabitha.
To free the town of Riverdale from Percival’s grip, Archie, Jughead and Betty hatch a plan to transform Archie into a modern-day folk hero by performing a series of impossible feats. Meanwhile, Percival targets Veronica, Toni, and Tabitha, pitting them and their businesses against each other. Finally, after falling ill, Cheryl makes a surprising discovery about herself.
It all goes down when Riverdale Season 6, Episode 10 airs Sunday, April 17 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
